Construction is the most dangerous land based work sector in Europe.

Around 2,800 people have died from injuries they received as a result of construction work over the past 25 years. Many more have been injured or made ill.

The leading safety hazards on site are falls from height, motor vehicle crashes,electrocution, machines, and being struck by falling objects. Some of the main health hazards on site are asbestos, solvents, noise, and manual handling activities.

Construction sites cannot completely exclude hazards to non-workers. Road construction sites must often allow traffic to pass through. This could place non workers in some kind of danger.
